Allergies and skin problems are common and problematic. Flea & mite bites, pollens, fungi etc can cause your dog to itch, scratch, have rashes and dry or inflamed skin. In addition, most types of commercial dog foods lack essential fatty acids (polyunsaturated fats omega-3 & 6) which can cause excessively dry skin and a dull coat.
Allergies are a result of your dogs immune system overreacting to the allergen, causing inflammation and itching. It is critical to get to the root of the problem. Check for bacterial & fungal (yeast) infections, parasites or sensitivities to different pollens or other environmental allergens. Some skin problems can be the result of digestive dysfunction so ensure that your dog’s diet is species appropriate and that their gut is healthy and strong. For yeast infections we recommend a combination of our Liver Love to detox and Tummy Tastic to rebuild gut health.
As with any allergy, it is important to find the trigger and avoid or eliminate it where possible, whether environmental or food. In some cases, such as house dust mites, this avoidance may be impossible. Medication is sometimes necessary for immediate relief but for some is not a long term solution due to possible side effects and toxic build up.
Aside of allergies, it may be that your dog moults excessively, struggles to regain their coat after shedding or has lost their colour pigment over time.
Certain breeds are more prone to these problems.
Skin & Coat is a premium 100% natural holistic superfood supplement. This blend will help to keep your dogs skin itch free and has a relaxing, calming effect.
This amazing formula contains herbs that have anti-histamine and steroidal properties, assist with detoxification, soothe the stomach, aid digestion, reduce moulting and restore colour pigment in breeds prone to pigment loss. It is a powerful antioxidant. Flaxseed oil helps to maintain overall good health of the heart, immune and reproductive systems, support mobility & circulation and balancemetabolism. Using holistic principles, Skin & Coat contains 4 adaptogens which are a unique class of healing herbs that help to balance, restore and protect the body both physically and emotionally. (for more information see the ‘adaptogenic herbs’ section of this website). The herbs in this formula have been selected by a holistic vet for maximum efficacy. Visible relief and health benefits can be seen in as little as 7 days in some dogs.
Feed once daily or every other day depending on the level of support required. Shake well before every use and store in the fridge to maintain freshness.
Available in 250ml, 500ml and 1 litre.
Ideal for dogs that have seasonal sensitivities, hot spots, rashes or redness, dry flaky skin, dull coats, moult excessively or have lost their colour pigment. Fantastic for getting coats in pristine condition pre-showing. Suitable for all breed types.
If your dog has additional symptoms together with skin & coat problems i.e. bad breath/lethargy/diarrhea, gas, bloating/joint pain/candida the underlying issue may be digestive dysfunction.
Not recommended for pregnant/nursing dogs and puppies under the age of 8 weeks old. Not to be used if your dog is known to be allergic/reactive to any of the ingredients listed or if your dog is taking blood thinning medication (anticoagulants)/blood modulators. Proflax Skin & Coat can be taken as an integrative approach alongside most medication, however, we suggest that you check with your own vet first as herbs can sometimes affect the absorption of certain medication.

Delivery options
Will my order arrive in one go?
Dogs About Town seeks out smaller, niche suppliers to bring you a collection of doggy goodies that’s a little bit different from the norm. Because of this, when you order, you might choose goods from several different suppliers and that will mean that your order won’t arrive in one package. For example, if you buy a lounge bed, nose-it toy and a chill pad, you’ll be supporting 3 different small manufacturers and you’ll receive 3 packages. Now, we know, this might seem a bit odd at first, but we hope you’ll agree that it’s worth it to find something just that little bit different and be able to support some of the smaller but beautifully formed suppliers and manufacturers.

A Quick Word About Packaging:
The world’s resources are precious, so whenever we can, we like to reuse packaging that we get sent. Things like those polystyrene chips, shredded paper or bubble wrap. We also try to choose the most environmentally cardboard boxes we can and this means that sometimes, you’ll get a box that looks too big for it’s contents. But rest assured, we’ve done our homework and picked the best option we can, plus any packing that we use to fill the box is likely to be on its second use. Phew.

I was even offered delivery of one of the items defrosted as they guessed I would run out by then! A fantastic service offering excellent value for money, with committed, knowledgeable, customer focused people behind it all. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them!
The dog agrees too.

Why should I choose your raw food?
We’ve chosen to work with Benyfit Natural because they share our values. They use the highest quality ingredients, which they source from Britain. Plus their manufacturing process creates a chinkier mince which your dog will have to chew and which will help clean their teeth due to the bone content (their puppy range uses finer blades for a smoother mince for small mouths). On top of all of that, when you buy your dog’s raw food from us, you’ll know that our dogs (who we love enormously) have tested each recipe and that we know the team who actually make the food (which is made in relatively small batches, which we love). And, you can call us free anytime with questions about feeding your dog raw food. 0800 644 4662 or email woof@dogsabouttown.co.uk
Can I feed raw to my puppy?
Yes. It’s great to start your puppy off on raw straight away. The puppy range is minced into smaller bits for smaller mouths and it includes Verm-X, which provides a natural and effective control of intestinal hygiene.
Aren't bones dangerous for dogs?
Cooked bones are, yes. They can split into sharp pieces and harm your dog but raw bones are safe for them. You must always supervise your dog when they are eating a raw bone and make sure you choose a bone of appropriate size for your dog.
Why is tinned food & Kibble So Popular if Raw is better?
Raw used to be the most popular way to feed your dog but tinned food and kibble were introduced about 60 years for people’s convenience (and because it was a big business opportunity). Now pet food is a massive commercial market place and it can be hard to get the message our about raw food – especially when competing with a multi-million pound global industry. But a transformation back to raw dog food is underway and you can help by following us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and telling your doggy friends about raw. We see how much our dogs love their raw food everyday and we can’t wait for you to see it in your dog too!
What are the benefits of feeding raw?
Feeding your dog a complete raw food diet can have many benefits including;
- Cleaner teeth & healthier gums
- Better smelling breath
- Smaller stools
- Healthier skin & shinier coat
- Better digestive health
- Fewer allergic symptoms & less scratching
- Easier weight management
Can any dog be fed a raw food diet?
Yes it can. Irrespective of breed, shape, age and size – genetically speaking the canine digestive system is the same in all dogs. So no-one needs to miss out. Waggy tails, all round!
How much should I feed my dog?
It depends on your do’s weight and energy levels. Check out our Portions Calculator and it will do the maths for you. Normally, you would feed your dog 2% of its equivalent body weight. So for a 25kg dog like Dexter, you would feed 500gr per day. Very active dogs might need a little bit more. Puppies need a little more – about 6%-8% of their bodyweight per day during their growth spurts, though this will tail off as they near 9 months of age. Again, our portions calculator will tell you how much to serve. It’s important to remember that no-one knows your dog as well as you do, so we always recommend that you use a visual test to keep their portions in line and adjust accordingly
My dog has a sensitive stomach, can they still eat raw food?
Yes. Benyfit Natural have special recipes for dogs with sensitive tummies (containing less offal). And they also have recipes for dogs who can’t eat vegetables (like Dexter), senior dogs and puppies.
